COMING SOON! Tree rescue events will take place all around the county during the four weekends of October (and a few on weekdays as well.) Come try your hand at clipping the invasive vines that are killing our trees while learning how to spot the native vines that should be spared. No experience necessary!

What to Know Before You Go

What to Wear: Long-sleeved shirts and long pants to protect against thorns, sturdy shoes, a hat.

What to Bring: Water. See instructions for each event about tools. If you have them, bring clippers, loppers, and/or small saws. If you don’t, most event leaders will have some extra tools you can borrow.

Sign Up: Please use the registration form or link on the calendar to let the event leaders know you are coming. Children must be over age 11 to actively participate.

We do every Monday from 10 am to noon or 12;30. Use either entrance, either car park. (The 2 car parks are next to each other.) There’s bathrooms. We meet by the wood chip pile. You’ll see a habitat restoration sign. Bring bug spray with DEET, and gloves if you have any. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.

    We will be working on English Ivy, Japanese Honeysuckle, and Bush Honeysuckle primarily. I recommend wearing long pants and long sleeves, and closed toe shoes (boots preferred). I recommend waterproof shoes. If you have gardening gloves, please bring them. I can provide gloves, but they aren’t quite as sturdy as the ones you might have at home. Wear bug spray, as the mosquitoes will be out!

    This is an educational event for community members with a focus on what our cluster is doing to manage invasive plants and how individuals can get involved. We will have a table where we will hand out resource materials and answer questions, including kids activities and refreshments. We will have a clean-up activity for volunteers.

    We will Cut/Saw invasive Bush Honeysuckle trees and ground vines to save trees at Horsepen Run Stream Valley Park. You will be briefed on this moderately strenuous activity, including safety, then shown how to ID and cut the plants. Wear: Long pants and long sleeves, boots, work gloves and a hat. Safety: Apply provided bug spray, avoid Poison Ivy, at home wash all clothes after event, shower and check for ticks. Bring: Water, hand saws, loppers, clippers. Please arrive 10 minutes early.
